My Ex-Boyfriend

Jenny and Erin’s “quest for understanding” - ‘How big of a role do habits play in your daily life? Do your habits typically form intentionally or unconsciously? What approaches have you found successful in shaping them?’

This question made me think through what my worst habit is. What is my bad habit that keeps jumping in my head? Aha! It’s my ex-boyfriend’s name popping into my head. Do I do it intentionally? No way! My mind is so used to calling and thinking of my ex-boyfriend that it can’t get it out. It doesn’t care much about the guy I’m crazy about at the moment.

One of the approaches I am using to change this is to repeat to myself that my mind should not remember him, instead it should be making an effort to think of someone else - anyone! And it works to some extent. The other approach that is quite successful is to busy my mind with other stuff - work and reading.

On the other hand, there are intentional habits, like not being able to wake up early. And what has helped? Personal effectiveness blogs and books!!
